I wore this outfit to the dance party at the last blogging conference I went to and it was the best decision ever. I can bust a move, and with these athletic flats, stretchy skirt, and breathable top, I went until they turned on the lights. I tried to bring that dancing spirit to these pictures, and you guys, you would not believe how crazy I looked. These were the only pictures where I didn’t look like I was falling. I’m just hoping that my grace is lost on film and that in person, I’m a gazelle.

How to Dress Your Breasts: When Your Shirt is Too Tight

When Your Shirt is too tight

The bane of every busty girl: The button down shirt. I really start to mourn it this time of year, when I want a light cotton to wear to beat the heat, but can’t find anything that doesn’t strain. I have some ideas coming up about how to solve the gap problem, but if your shirt is too tight to button but fits you everywhere else, do you get rid of it? No way! You can still do so much with that top!

Wear an undershirt and button it up to just below your boobs. It’s super flattering as it defines your shape.

Wear it like a cardigan. It’s a great layering option for unpredictable weather or when you want to look put together without a lot of extra warmth.

086w

Use it as a layering piece. Cute top and a blazer? Adorable. Cute top, blazer, and contrasting button down? Fashion maven.

107w

Wear it underneath a vest. The fact that it’s unbuttoned under there is my little secret.

Leave it open and belt it. Show off that va va va voom.

Sometimes a too tight shirt can work in your favor. Being snug on your arms and around your middle can highlight your curves even more. And it offers you a ton of dressing options to keep things from getting predictable. Who says buttons need to be buttoned anyway?

Capris are rather controversial in the style world, but I think they’re great. Most women I know won’t wear shorts post childbirth, and in hot climates like mine those few inches of exposed shin really do make a difference. But they also have a reputation for being rather frumpish. A little, Eastern European Tourist-y. I think the answer is to fight the frump with heels and a pulled together outfit. Khaki capris and a T-shirt? Would make anybody look frumpy. But with adorable shoes and a great top, my shins can breathe free and I look much more like a woman on the prowl than a woman on vacation.

Anthropolgie is all the rage amongst my blogging friends, and with good reason. That store is gorgeous and awe inspiring. And expensive. Crazy crazy expensive. This top is the only piece of clothing I’ve ever bought there, and I got it at such steep discount it must have been discovered in the storeroom two years after it was new. I am too cheap for Anthropologie, but finding a bargain there makes me feel like the Super Shopper of the World. Maybe I should start stashing clothes in those beautifully distressed dressers and hoping that if I wait long enough, I’ll be able to afford more beautiful things.

Somewhere in Modesto there is a woman who sews all her own clothes and was once the same size as me, and she is going through her closet and giving her treasures to thrift stores. The clothes she makes are retro fabulous and I can never resist them. I wonder if she made these back when they were in style the first time and now she’s an older lady. Maybe her weight fluctuates and she’s getting rid of things that don’t fit her. Since they show up so regularly, I don’t think that she’s passed and it’s her children donating clothes. I hope not. Hands that can sew such lovely things are a gift to the planet. And me, in particular.

This dress came with a smart little cropped jacket in the same fabric. The styling possibilities are endless.

Nobody ever believes me when I say I bought this trench at WalMart. I’ve had people try to buy it off my back. I’m not normally a fan of pink, in fact, I think this might currently be the only pink thing I own, but the red and orange polkadots make the whole thing seem like a party. Perfect for celebrating Spring in all its glory.
